If you want incredible alpine views without spending forever in the car, there are a number of amazing hikes within a 30-minute drive of Breckenridge. From easy scenic walks to more challenging alpine adventures, there is
a trail for everyone.

Mohawk Lake Trail

One of the most iconic hikes near Breckenridge is the Mohawk Lakes Trail. During your adventure, you’ll pass waterfalls, wildflowers, and old mining ruins. While this is a moderately challenging option, the mountain views and stunning scenery make it worth it.

McCullogh Gulch Trailhead

Start at the McCullough Gulch Trailhead, and you’ll get to explore a picturesque trail known for waterfalls and dramatic alpine scenery. Found near Quandary Peak, this is a great option if you want a classic Colorado hike without committing to a full-day journey.

Illinois Creek Trailhead

For a shorter, easier outing, try the Illinois Creek Trail. This path leads you to the famous Isak Hearstone troll and can easily be extended into a longer forest loop. This is one of our favorite options for guests with kids.

Sapphire Point Overlook

While this is technically more of a short scenic walk than a true hike, it still deserves a spot on this list. After making the roughly 25-minute drive from Breckenridge, make your journey to the overlook above the Dillon Reservoir. The Sapphire Point Overlook is a great place to visit at sunrise or sunset.

Spruce Creek Trail

Found within the Dillon Ranger District, the Spruce Creek Trail is a local favorite. Filled with forest scenery, historic mining remnants, and creek crossings, this is a top scenic choice. It also has easy access to Mohawk Lakes if you’re looking to extend your hike.
