An Unusual Sight | Discover the Breckenridge Troll

Meet Isak Heartstone

Nestled in the heart of Breckenridge along the Swan River rests Isak Heartstone, also known as the Breckenridge Troll. Danish artist Thomas Dambo created this large-scale, wooden, and metal statue. Co-commissioned by the Town of Breckenridge and Breck Create, Isak was installed in June 2019. Since then, he has become a beloved part of Breckenridge, combining the town’s creative spirit and love of the outdoors. 

Isak will be a part of the community as long as visitors respect him and his home. After your visit, be sure to pick up any garbage and throw it away at the trailhead’s trash can. If you’re bringing your dog with you on your adventure, be sure to keep them on the leash and don’t let them become too friendly with Isak.

How Can You Find Him?

Finding Isak is easy since he lives on the new Trollstigen Trailhead, which is located near the Illinois Gulch Trailhead. There are a few ways to reach the trail. You can walk about 15 minutes from the Breckenridge Welcome Center, bike about 10 minutes, or catch the Breck Free Ride Trolley from Breckenridge Station. Once you reach the trail, simply follow the troll footprints on the pavement to find Isak.
